Coach Dane on Measuring the Return on Character in Leadership

Hey, what's up everybody today. I wanted to be able to share with you an article from the Harvard business review on leadership or a particular aspect of leadership. Really interesting article from the Harvard Business Review titled "Measuring the Return on Character in Leadership."

I have also recorded a video at:  https://app.knowmia.com/6hAo

Finally, finally, someone is waking up, so to speak, to why character is important in our workplace, especially in regard to leadership.

Now, this is from an April 2015 issue. So it's been around for a long, long time. However, probably it's still there because it needs to be a message that all of us need to hear from time to time. So in this particular instance, they're taking this idea that character is a subjective trait and it seems to defy quantification.

And so probably that's one reason why most of us don't use character skills as a measurable trait or a way to quantify for behavior and or performance in the workplace. However, it's really, really critical. I in this particular instance, Harvard business review said to measure it, Kara w co-founder Fred Kiel and his colleagues began by sifting through the anthropologist, Donald Brown, his classic inventory of about 500 behaviors and characteristics that are recognized and displayed in all human societies.

So in this particular instance, they just, I drew on that list and they identified four moral principles. So I'm just going to highlight those here. Integrity, responsibility. Forgiveness and compassion. Those are four moral principles that are universal. So I invite you to come to this, uh, particular, uh, link for the Harvard business review and learn more about how these leaders scored in integrity, responsibility, forgiveness, and compassion, those four moral principles that are so critical for leadership behavior on the job, as well as off the job.

But primarily we're focused on. In the workplace, uh, today with all of the different things going on in our society, it is so chaotic. There, we need leaders with character. We need leaders who can lead by caring for others first. So this has been Dane with the Leadership Management Development in Character Center(LMDC). And I just encourage you to take a look at this Harvard business review.

I think you'll learn a lot from it. It will motivate you, get you enthusiastic and hopefully allow you to see instead of just subjectivity some objective way to bring character measurement into your workplace as well.
