"Leadership is a journey, not a destination. It is a marathon, not a sprint. It is a process, not an outcome." —John Donahoe, president of eBay
Too many leaders believe they have arrived at being a good leader. Sadly, many of them have never really begun the journey since they see themselves as better leaders than others they surround themselves with. They see no need to learn about leadership or invest in themselves to grow to their own potential as leaders.
John Donahue reminds us that the leadership journey is all about the process, and it is a marathon...not a sprint. There is no destination. Very Simply, it is about walking the walk on a daily commitment to invest in developing the leader within, so one can truly invest in developing the leaders around them, and reach toward the goal of growing into a Level 5 Leader.
Maybe that is why so few leaders (in position or title only) feel no real need to lead by example? They believe they have arrived at their destination by sprinting to an outcome.
How about you? Are you committed to developing the leader within, so that you can also help develop the leaders around you? I encourage you to start the journey today...set your sights on growing into a Level 5 Leader...and don't forget to..."Lead with Character First."
