The Ararat Connection: Practicing "Political Intelligence"

You’ve heard of office politics and might think of them as a negative element in the workplace. Savvy leaders, however, view these politics as a neutral and necessary part of life and know how to strategically navigate within that hierarchy to organize and advance goals.

Think of every person in your office as an individual puzzle piece that contributes to the whole in a unique and helpful way. Knowing each person's strengths will help you better understand where to turn when you need help getting a difficult message through to your team, or if you’re looking to make a change. When you know the personalities you’re working with, you’ll be better able to guide the team in the right direction.

It may sound silly, but there are lots of personality tests out there that are helpful ESPECIALLY for the workplace. One that many of us are familiar with is the Myers Briggs test. Another great personality assessment tool is DISC. The test was created as an introspective self-report questionnaire to indicate differing personality preferences in how people perceive others, and the world around them and make decisions. In the workplace, the DISC test can be used to better understand learning styles, principles, and personality types, which is super helpful for you when it comes to understanding how each person meshes with one another within your company’s culture.
