Dear Leader,
You’ve heard of office politics and might think of them as a negative element in the workplace. Savvy leaders, however, view these politics as a neutral and necessary part of life and know how to strategically navigate within that hierarchy to organize and advance goals.
Think of every person in your office as an individual puzzle piece that contributes to the whole in a unique and helpful way. Getting to know the strengths of each person will help you better understand where to turn when you need help getting a difficult message through to your team, or if you’re looking to make a change. When you know the personalities you’re working with, you’ll be better able to guide the team in the right direction.
It may sound silly, but there are lots of personality tests out there that are helpful ESPECIALLY for the workplace. One of the best ones is the DISC test. The test was created as an introspective self-report questionnaire with the purpose of indicating differing dominant psychological preferences in how people perceive the world around them and make decisions. In the workplace, the test can be used to better understand learning styles, principles, and personality types, which is super helpful for you when it comes to understanding how each person meshes with one another within your company’s culture.
You can learn more and access the DISC test at https://www.lmdc.us/disc. Then you can schedule some time and set aside an afternoon with your team to take the test then talk about their results. If possible, do some exercises separating the introverts from extroverts, then allowing each side to ask each other questions and share viewpoints. Continue this practice with each letter of the DISC test. Not only will this allow your team to get to better understand one another, but you’ll also get an idea of how your team thinks and prefers to operate. You can contact me and schedule me to help you with the DISC tests, and even DISC debriefs for each of your team members. You can schedule me to come and teach/coach at https://bookme.name/CoachDane. We could even play the Maxwell Leadership Game with your team!
