Which is most Important: Strategy, Culture or Character?

So, which is it?  Which is most important:  Strategy, Culture, or Character?

Recently, a friend and I discussed the importance of character and how it impacted the business environment and culture.

He asked me, "How and why would I add character to business?"

How would you answer that question?

I gave my friend an immediate answer, but as I thought a lot more about the answer to that question after the call, it became increasingly clear that there had to be more to the answer than a simple one-liner.

So, to really answer the question, here are a few of my thoughts:

  • In my book, The Tricycle Effect (website), the balanced Competence Skills Wheels (in the back of the Trike) Lead to Success:  Adding Value to Self.  Most businesses focus on Profits over People.
  • In The Tricycle Effect (Doodly Video on YouTube), the Character Skills Wheel (in the front of the Trike) leads to Significance: Adding Value to Others.  Most businesses should be focused on adding value to their People and then Profits will come.
  • Throughout history, every story ever told includes at least one ethical character theme and Characters that act out a particular character skill:  Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, Loyalty, etc.
  • Turns out that character and acting with good character are quantifiable in the business world and can be measured.  In other words, there is a Return on Character….and statistics show a direct correlation between C-Level execs and their ability to lead (influence) their teams/companies to success with positive cash flow and healthy culture, including longevity, by leading with character.  Simply said, leaders who focus on leading and building relationships with Character in their companies make more money and have fewer costs/expenses to run and operate the company (i.e.-turnover, etc.). BUT…very few companies know this or live this, and even fewer think about character as a skill they need to grow personally and professionally.
  • Even great leaders believe that Character is the most important skill.  Leaders such as:
    • Military Leader - General Schwartzkopf said,  "Leadership is a potent combination of strategy and character. But if you must be without one, be without the strategy."
    • Business Leader - Warren Buffet said, Somebody once said that in looking for people to hire, you look for three qualities: integrity, intelligence, and energy. And if you don’t have the first, the other two will kill you. You think about it; it’s true. If you hire somebody without [integrity], you really want them to be dumb and lazy.”
    • Spiritual LeaderBilly Graham said, "Integrity is the glue that holds our way of life together. We must constantly strive to keep our integrity intact. When wealth is lost, nothing is lost; when health is lost, something is lost; when character is lost, all is lost.’"
  • "There is Power in Character!  Christ was the greatest example.  It was Christ’s Character that was powerful… the Character of Christ!  Leading with Character First is transformative!  Most people don't know why Christ sat down at the right hand of God the Father.  That answer alone defines true transformation.  Hint:  The answer is the same reason a Father puts his bride/daughter on his right side as they walk down the aisle to the altar as he gives her away to the groom to be married.
  • Many C-Level Executives hire Business Coaches, Life Coaches, Health Coaches, Executive Coaches, Golf & Sport Coaches, Yoga Coaches, Pickle Ball Coaches, and just about every other kind of coach, but very few if any have a CHARACTER COACH!  How about you?  Ready for your very own Character Coach?
I could add many more concepts to this list, but those seven concepts seemed to bring out the CLEAR importance of "leading with character first in life," even within a business environment.

Hope you are "leading with character first in life and business!"

Trike On!

Meet Edgar Testimonial

Those of you that know me, know that I am a teacher by degree and a coach by profession.  As a coach, I also love to BE coached and learn new things in life and business.
Most people do like to learn!  AND coached, AND grow too!
However, in this day and age, especially now with COVID 19, it is more difficult than ever to feel connected enough to someone to have them coach you, or even just LEARN anything for that matter, with schools closed and/or closing, social distancing and all.
Many companies and their employees are very "cold" when people call them.  In fact, some of those companies are downright "rude."
I went to the emergency room recently, and instead of a "Hello.  How may I help you?" or something similar, what I got was a "What do you want?"  Seriously?  No kidding!
Who would want to be met with that greeting when they are standing there in pain with a kidney stone?  Again, seriously?
Believe it or not, they have a customer service telephone number I called and they call themselves "The Customer Experience Department."
Customer Experience?  Customer Experience?  I could not believe it!
They need to get out of their offices and come down to where the people live to find out what is really happening.  You can't create a customer experience of any kind if you are stuck in an office with a phone.
Other experiences are similar.  Even companies on the web no longer post a telephone number or even where the company headquarters is located.  Go ahead..check it out!  You will find that what I am saying is absolutely true.
I do not do business with businesses that don't build relationships...it is that SIMPLE!
Without a telephone number and an address to a place that you are proud to tell people you hail from, you just can't be good at customer service, or as some say, Customer Experience.
So, today, I want to introduce you to an extraordinary company that has literally changed my life...and especially, my Social Media life.
They are different!
They CARE!
They Empathize!
meetedgar logoThey make you feel a part of the TEAM!
Well....who are they?
Meet Edgar!
Did you get that?
MeetEdgar!
No, that is not a person....that is actually the real name of the company...Meet Edgar....short version is ME!
WOW!  This company is no high falutin' Fortune 500 company.  You can tell right away that this company is different.  They are "down to earth."
They know how to "keep the cookies on the bottom shelf."
Their leader (Ms. Laura Roeder/CEO), the Marketing Guru (Megan with her awesome SMILE), and the ME Support Team.  They are all very energetic and really know their craft technically!
The "Technical" Skill Wheel is one of the back two wheels in The Tricycle Effect!
BUT...and this is a big BUT....what stands out the most is that they are CARING!
Yes...they are Leading with Character First!
Caring is one of the spokes inside the Front "Character" Skill Wheel in The Tricycle Effect.
Their product and service is #1 and no one comes close to their operation, at least that I have experienced over the last 41 years that I have been in business and the IT business at that.
How do I know they are CARING, you ask?
Well, for starters they actually followup with emails, blogs and videos and keep following up.
They also start you right off with quick education tidbits and personal videos so you get to personally know them and feel like you have known them all of your life.
They really live the old adage "KNOW, LIKE, and TRUST!"  And the simple methods they use to get you and their product up and running quickly and easily so you have a quick WIN is Fantastic!
I could literally say that they COACH you from the first minute you connect with them.
They are intent on building strong TRUST relationships with their customers, and it literally shows in every "touch" they make with their customers.
The Professional or People" Skill Wheel in building relationships with others is also one of the back two wheels in The Tricycle Effect.
They are professionals that know how to connect with the "HEART" of their customers.
This experience has been a lot of FUN!
MeetEdgar is all about automating your Social Media to grow your business!
That is it!
So, they took something that I was having a very difficult time with and struggling to get done, and turned it into a simple and FUN way to create social media posts and manage them at the same time.
Today, my life is so much more simple in the fast lane of Social Media, but I am in control thanks to MeetEdgar.
And best of all?  Life is FUN again in the Social Media fast lane!
Maybe you struggle with the same fears and anxieties that I did with posting my social media material.
Maybe you are looking for a great way to automate, schedule and deliver your social media the right way, and on time, every time.
If you are, then MeetEdgar is for you too! #meetedgar

Are You The Weakest Link When It Comes To The Human Factor in Cyber Security? (Note: From Podbean Podcast 2 of 3)

https://danedeutsch.podbean.com/e/episode-011-are-you-the-weakest-link-when-it-comes-to-the-human-factor-in-cyber-security-2-of-3/

Hey, what's up, everybody. Welcome back to the character secrets podcast today. I want to share with you one of the best ways you can protect yourself, your family, and your company from cyber-attacks. So in this day and age, when cyberattacks are increasing in severity and pace, there is one critical thing you need to do to prepare and stay safe on the internet.

And today I want to share with you a digital secret from the technical wheel and the trickle effect and how it could save your reputation, your company, and change your digital life.

So the big question is this horror entrepreneurs like us, who didn't cheat to win in business, spending time, money, and energy from our own company and doing the right thing. How do we grow ourselves or families that are companies in a way that lets us get our products, services, and things we believe in out to the world and still remain true to ourselves and profitable?

That is the question. And this podcast will give you the name. My name is Dane George, and welcome to character secrets. So that education piece, and that's a great segue into the next thing that I wanted to discuss, which I think is probably the really most prominent tip of the spear. So to speak is educating our users to make sure they understand what kind of threats are out there.

How they can defend themselves instead of clicking on a link in an email or how they can actually recognize a legitimate email from one that might be crafted to get them to give up their W2's or whatever else they might be fishing for the bag. So what is the breach secure now, product service or solution art.

And, and how does that really help us bolster that side of the human factor equation? So we, we focus on human security, you know, as, as opposed to technical, right? The technical safeguards, firewalls, antivirus, the vulnerability scans. We're focusing on raising awareness of employees and users on how to spot phishing emails, how to, to, you know, look out for scams, and really it is.

And you mentioned in the, in the introduction. And, you know, in school, you were, you were taught, you had quizzes, you built upon educated topics and you kept better and better. Um, as you and I know I get an email, I'm looking at headers, I'm looking at links, I'm looking at language, I'm looking at all these pieces that become.

Intuitive because I've done it so much. That's what we're doing. We're trying to use innovative and engaging and lots of videos, but we're trying to use all of these tools to raise awareness for employees. So they do the exact same thing. They start checking all the pieces and look at emails with suspicion.

This doesn't sound right, or this doesn't look right. Just going to ignore it or, you know, I'll take some other actions instead of click on a link, I'll go to the website directly. So we're, we're, you know, we're using a lot and those tools, but the key is you have to make it interesting. You have to make, get engaging.

Otherwise, people have other things to do. And then this is, you know, they don't want to deal with this. So, um, you know, that's the challenge, you know, to, to, to educate. Make it interesting and realize that this is not the only thing that users are doing, their work, they have a job to do. So, you know, make it in bite-sized pieces.

And I think that's, those are some of the aspects that we're, that we're working on, um, to raise awareness. That's great. And I think that is the key is that if we can increase that awareness for the individual users and then their security goes up, it isn't like you have to be totally secure, I don't think necessarily, but if you provide enough challenges, enough protection with that human factor, that guys will go elsewhere looking for a softer target instead of trying to break through something that is, there are plenty of easier targets out there.

And so we just need to put up a big enough challenge that they actually will go somewhere else and look for a softer target. How long has breached secure now, Ben providing your services? Art. So we've been in business for two, since 2010. Um, we're really focused on the breach, secure analysis, 2015. So, um, and that, that is that it's really growing very, very rapidly or our business.

Uh, you know, as you said, right, more and more criminals are coming in and, and more and more businesses are starting to work. He got up and say, you know, we need to secure ourselves, not only with technology but, but raising awareness. Right. Exactly. So how many companies around the world use your services or do you just do us companies only?

No. So we are worldwide. We haven't done anything to we've advertised worldwide and you know, we're starting to get Australian partners in New Zealand and South Africa and Europeans. Awesome. How we're we're, you know, our names out there, but predominantly we're in the United States, um, have close to 35,000 customers using our platform.

That's amazing. Yeah, no, that's good because every single one we get on and we can get them educated as one less. That's the weakest link. And hopefully, we can make that, that entire chain as strong as possible. You know, my background in the military, I tell people these days that this is the very first time and in our United States history.

That our government and our military cannot actually protect us as citizens. We each are responsible for our own protection. And yet we have people who are doing this, these attacks and crafting there, we're studying their craft. If you will, 24 by seven, 365 days a year. And, um, And it's almost inconceivable that we as just little business owners might have to play against some big adversary like that, but that's a fact.

And so, um, you know, we are each responsible for our own security and I think we have to find a way to work together. You even if you want to call it a virtual team, um, so that we're making each other stronger in order to be able to make sure that the weakest link closest to us doesn't become victimized or compromised.

So, and you said it, you said the government can't protect us. Can't protect their own cities, their own, you know, States look at, look what happened in Texas in Baltimore and Atlanta, we are falling behind. And the other reason is. Cybercriminals. These are, these are organized crime. Okay.

Worldwide organized crime. I've seen that. One of the programmers who's writing malware ransomware paid close to a million dollars a year. Yeah. Hey, you know, and, and so that's, you know, they're getting the brightest people in the world to do this. So when you think about being outnumbered, we have employees and users that haven't been trained against worlds, class developers that are getting very good at their trade.

You know, we're outnumbered, you know, and if you look in the military where they're out, you know, we're out powered also. So how do we protect ourselves? That's a really good point. Let's talk about the threat that the interposes today to our way of life, our culture, and ultimately our freedom. We talked about trust earlier, but one of the things that I think is really interesting is that our culture, the trust in our culture, let's say the character of our culture is breaking down in lots of different ways.

You know, people like to be on their devices all the time. They don't talk to one another directly, anymore in a lot of cases, no face to face relationships. I know of one school that had their W2's all fished by the bad guys because they hadn't set up the right security technically. But more importantly, the conversation that, that school went, something like this, but one person who got the email.

Told the other person in the office. Well, do you think I really should send all these W2's to the superintendent and the other lady said, well, you know what happens is if you don't do what he says, so the culture within the organization, if it's not healthy, Actually lends itself so that people are afraid to pick up the phone and, and construct or verify, you know, what kind of email was sent.

Are you sure you really want me to send these W2's did you really ask for that instead? They just want it quickly off their plate, right? Where this fast-food society, everything fast. And in this particular instance with this particular cybersecurity industry, haste definitely makes waste. Yeah.

And, and you know, what we, what companies have to do is put those, you know, that two-factor authentication for humans, right? If you feel that that is something that, you know, if you're going to ask another employee, should I do this? You got to pick up the phone to call the superintendent. You have to be for you, make you transfer W2's before you pay a vendor with a new routing number.

You have to verify this because of every email. Could be AC you know, could be a potential scam. That's trying to trick you into doing something. So the days of just trusting and doing it, and the problem is it gets harder. Because the superintendent's email may have been compromised. You know, the superintendent may have fallen for some sort of scam inside of there, you know, email sending legitimate emails from their account.

That's, that's almost impossible to know, except they're asking you to do something that you should say. Hmm. I don't know if I really want to do that. They got to verify it. So, you know, it's gotta be a knee jerk reaction. I have to verify before doing anything that's going to cause me problems. Cause my organization problem.

Yeah, absolutely. We really do need to get back to where we are actually working with. One another face to face shaking hands and have a relationship that we can build on trust so that we know we can call them. And we're not afraid to, to go verify. So you talked about the email thing and I've seen several situations where customers were actually compromised.

Um, the. The, they probably had a Phish email at some point where they clicked on a link, but then after that fish went away, what happened was that the bad guy then forwarded, set a setting inside their email. So afforded all their emails to them, which wouldn't alert anyone that anything was actually happening and what they were doing then.

Is taking their time to do reconnaissance. They were looking for who holds the purse strings in this organization who are, who is what's the pecking order, and who is actually ACH money or who has the purse strings. Right. So, um, we've watched title companies and others who have had money ACH because they never bothered to pick up that phone and call that other person.

And they also look at how this person sends emails, actually analyzing their, you know, their communication. Are they putting their last name and the signature, you know, our first day, like where they say, say thanks, or they put in their initials, they get good at like, Oh, this is how this person. Starts to, you know, sends emails.

Um, we're going to send emails just like that. Right? Right. Exactly. They're not just doing reconnaissance to figure it out who is in the game here or where the money is actually flowing, but also how do I craft these emails? So it looks and sounds and feels like the actual person that I'm impersonating.

Right. And that's a really good point. Really good point. So then just to take it one other step, you know, say they're inside that superintendent's email. And they're all sort of looking on LinkedIn. The superintendent said I'm going to be at some conference. Okay. If I know that, then I can write it an email.

I'm at a conference. I don't have time to do it. You just transfer this money. Could you send me that information then? You know, it's not only the superintendent, but everybody knows what the superintendent is at that conference. How would they know? It's gotta be the superintendent makes it real. So you think about all that information that's out there that could be collected.

To really make, you know, believable scams or we've seen before, where they're waiting for someone to go on vacation. Yep. And they just, they, they make their target, uh, vulnerable while that CEO or the CIO or CFO is on vacation. And so yes, they have all the intelligence inside that email system and they're crafting their actual attack based on all of the reconnaissance that they're gleaming there.

So really, really good point. You know, Fox news lately had said that their reporting on cybersecurity is now the greatest threat to our nation at one point in the last month or so. So do you think that cybersecurity is the greatest threat to our nation and why? If you do it there, I don't know whether it's the greatest threat, but it is definitely a real threat, you know when you start looking at, at the impact to small businesses, to large businesses, but then you take it to the next step of, you know, could it.

Could it hit our utilities? Could it, you know, could, you know, look at ransomware or we're taking over and compromising, you know, um, systems that are our, you know, our core infrastructure could go down. Right. You know, if you keep going, you know, within, um, the internet ahead of things and you know, your, your smart homes, you smart refrigerators.

You know, could those be breached your smartphones or smartwatches, your, your pacemakers. So cybersecurity, as we know, it means everything. We're a connected society. So, you know, could bad guys, whether those are organized crimes, you know, you know, um, state-sponsored other companies, uh, other countries.

It could definitely if you take it to the worst case, it could be a huge threat, to us as a home. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah.

Are You The Weakest Link When It Comes To The Human Factor in Cyber Security? (Note: From Podbean Podcast 1 of 3)

So the big question is this, are entrepreneurs like us, who didn't cheat to win in business, spending time, money, and energy from our own company and doing the right thing. How do we grow ourselves or families that are companies in a way that lets us get our products, services, and things we believe in out to the world and still remain true to ourselves and profitable?

That is the question. And this podcast will give you the answer. My name is Dane Deutsch and welcome to character secrets. This is going to be another very exciting show today. There's nothing more important these days than internet security, cybersecurity. And with that said, almost everybody is connected to the internet in some form or fashion these days.

Whenever a person connects the internet. That also means that everyone on the internet has the virtual capability of connecting to that person as well. Therefore, increasingly everyone is more susceptible to internet threats than ever before. So in reality, “the bad guys are getting better, faster than the good guys are getting gooder.”

And I would love to say it that way because I try and to get people's attention. Threats like malware viruses, ransomware being developed, and created quantity, greater frequency. And with increased sophistication, when the bad guy, as you're developing these new threats, they also know that we, we, as humans are vulnerable and that is why they count on us to make their schemes successful.

They count on human weakness. What I like to call the human factor or the human element that is we as humans, trust one another to a certain degree so that we can communicate with each other. Build relationships do commerce and much more. The trust factor is so crucial in helping us grow as investors Joel's families and even our entire global society or individual cultures today.

But that trust is also what the bad guys pray upon. So how do we combat or protect ourselves from that threat and yet still trust the good guys? Well, that answer is in educating ourselves as humans. Sure we all go to school and we learn a lot from our school years, but the most important thing we should have learned is that school is only a first step to a lifetime of developing habit.

For education, internet security is no different. That's growing on the internet at an exponential rate. We can't just depend on being edited once and consider that good enough. Yet many people, companies, and organizations do just that. Dustin dykes once said the adage is true that the security systems have to win every time the attacker only has to win once.

So in other words, we have to cover all the holes and the attacker only needs to find one. So think about it. If the threat is involving shouldn't, we get into the habit of educating ourselves on a consistent and timely basis to match or parallel the new evolving threats and risks. And they're growing daily.

The answer to that question of how to educate ourselves is absolute. Yes. So how do we go about doing that? That's the foundation of today's internet security awareness training radio sepsis episode. We are here today to share with you our listeners, our great solution and service from an internet security training company called breach secure.

Now. And we are joined by our girls, founder, and CEO of breach secure. Now we are partnered with art and his company Breach Secure Now to allow us to provide our customers with the very best continuing education on internet security awareness training. Art joins us today to tell us more about his company, their mission, their vision, and their Superbowl world-class education system that focuses on simple.

And yet, yes, high caliber security awareness training. Hello, Art, and welcome to blog talk radio. It's great. It's great to be here. Thank you. Thanks for the opportunity. So you're the founder and CEO of breach secure now a security awareness training company, right? That's correct. I'm secure now. It was founded in 2010.

Um, we've helped organizations with HIPAA compliance and helping small and midsize businesses with cybersecurity and all of the things that you said about training employees and building awareness. That's what we do. That's we think that that is a critical aspect now. Right. You know, instead of just technology, you have to focus on these humans.

Cause those humans are making mistakes a lot. Right. And we, as humans are the weakest link. I like to tell people, um, so you know, the threats and vulnerabilities and risks are only increasing. We've got to find a way to be able to educate our teammates, our team members, our fans, family members, so that whoever is around us is not the weakest link.

Right. So that way we don't become a victim or a lie susceptible to some kind of ransomware or other threat or risk out there. So. And you said, you said it, you know, that we're, we're trusting, we're trusting bonds. Right. You know, and, and, you know, rely on that trust and that social engineering to trick people and, and to, you know, cause data breaches.

So it's really important to focus on that part of it. You know, you have to have trust, like you said, for the good guys, but how do you not trust the bad guys? Right. And you know, on top of that, They pray on everyone, right. All ages. So I know the older people always been trusting in our society. Um, yeah.

Younger folks today might verify first and then trust. But our culture overall is still trust first and verify second, which makes us even more vulnerable in some sense when it comes to cybersecurity or internet security. So one of the things I know that that is just a, you know, hard for the people that are older to be able to grasp is the fact that, Hey, if it pops up on the screen, it must be real.

Right. And yet most of these things that the bad guys are doing to try and capture us so to speak or fish us, um, so that they can put something on our computer or steal money from us or whatever is to make those things look as real as possible. Right. Exactly and, you know, they're getting better and better at it.

And I'm personally, you know, if you, if you hit a, a large number of potential victims, you're going to get some that, that fall for that trick. And, and as it gets more and more believable and more and more real, your, your victims are going to increase and. So as we've seen that the cybercriminals are, there's a lot of money to be made.

So they're getting better and better. They're, they're hiring better and better talent, and it's becoming harder and harder to tell the fake emails and the fake, you know, you know, the real ones and these scams are just getting much better. So, um, you know, humans are at a very much of a disadvantage right now.

Right. And it isn't just scams either the rise of ransomware and some of the others, um, payload, if you will, that they're delivering to the, uh, the victims per se, uh, and asking for money or holding them a ransom for ransom or even extorting them for money is incredible. Even some of the tools that they're using now are past tools that our own government has developed.

Um, and my understanding from recently with this whole idea of, uh, the number of cities we got hit with ransomware in, uh, Texas recently a week ago, I think on a Friday was a very collaborative effort. And there were what all, I think, 22 or 23 cities that were held for ransom and that particular attack and, and the word on the street is that they're using the bad guys.

You're using NSA tools. Yeah, exactly. And you know, when it comes down to it, there's, there are lots of tools, but a lot of these ransomware attacks, a lot of the malware, it's all delivered via tricking, not all of it, but a lot of it's delivered the in tricking and employee. Where, you know, a human to go and do something to download it, a file to, to click on a link, too, to give away a password or, or, um, you know, ID and password.

So, you know, some of it is definitely using NSA tools that look for vulnerabilities in technical systems. The other ones are tricking employees and, and, you know, as humans to, to install it for them. So, uh, you know, you have a, a double, a double-edged sword there. So what some people are calling social engineering, right?

They're, um, they're betting on the fact that you're going to trust something that comes across your email or across your screen, click on it and go from there. When in reality it doesn't look like it looked, might look like an email from your bank, but in reality, it's an email crafted by the bad guys to look like your bank and be as real as possible.

I think the days of the quote, unquote, Nigerian letters with lots of spelling errors, and grammatical errors is long gone and the bad guys. Are now crafting emails and pictures and websites and things that are very, very good. Have good grounds course. A lot of that is automated now, so they can look better than they ever have before.

Right. Yeah, absolutely. Um, I saw a statistic that they said 88% of all small and midsize business data breaches are caused by social engineering. That is like mind-blowing. When you think about it, like almost every single one is caused by some, you know, some, employees being tricked into doing something, so right.

They're getting much, much better. Well, we've had some, uh, victims, so to speak just within a 30-mile radius of rice Lake, 30 miles, two 60 miles. Um, it seems like it's been an emergency room lately because they get calls from some of these. They're not our customers, but they're people who have been victimized and someone else told them to call us because they knew we were into cybersecurity.

One of the things that I think is, is somewhat. Um, disconcerting is the fact that a lot of companies are popping up saying they're doing cybersecurity cause they can make a fast buck. So either on the good side guy inside of the, or the bad guy's side of the house, we're getting it from both ends in reality.

You know, it's like a gold rush. When you think about it, it's a gold rush because the criminals are rushing in to, to make money. You have the suppliers that are supplying all the miners, uh, you know, in the, in a gold rush. So you have everybody moving into this space and, and unfortunately, it's going on because.

But the criminals are, are, you know, are successful. So there's lots of money. There's lots of money to be had stealing. And there's lots of money to be had trying to protect the, you know, the businesses from being coming victims. So it really is a gold rush. Yeah. And you know, the one thing that has been interesting, it was, I asked some of these people who have been victimized, who would come to me and want help afterward.

Well, who are you using for your it service? And they'll tell me, and I say, well, did you check their background? Right. And they never did even banks that we have gone in talk to never ask for a background. If you hung out a shingle that says you do cybersecurity, then that means you do cybersecurity. For the same reason, we talked about trust being violated on the internet, just because someone hangs out a shingle that says they do computers or networks or cybersecurity doesn't mean they actually do.

Everyone at our company has been vetted through the FBI's organization called infra. InfraGuard. And a lot of people don't know that there's an organization that yeah. I created to collaborate or partner with private industry, where they do allow you to become a secured member. They do a background investigation on you.

So even my administrative people have had background investigations done and, uh, and it has allowed us to be a lot more authentic and genuine for our customers when they call. I can definitely tell them that all of my people here are. Uh, they are cleared for law enforcement sensitive information. And because of that, we also gain Intel there because these bad guys are growing so fast.

Their tools are getting smarter with artificial intelligence and machine learning. Now, um, it's just becoming much more difficult, much more complex to, uh, to be able to fight. Yeah. And you know, and it's, it's basically basically a very unregulated industry. Anyone could say that they're a cybersecurity expert.

Anyone could say that they're a managed service provider, so you're right. You know, customers have to, to peel back a couple layers and make sure that the, you know, that the company you're working with. Has the, the capability that they have, those background checks that they, you know, that they can truly protect you.

But I think the other problem is a lot of the businesses don't believe that going to be a victim. Right. They believe that, you know, this, I don't have to worry about the cybersecurity stuff, because that only happens to target that only happens to hospitals. So, you know, I don't have anything the bad guys want.

Right. Exactly. Exactly. So, you know, I don't think. I don't even think we're at the point where small businesses are actually concerned about, you know, the background of their cybersecurity, because, you know, okay, I have a firewall, I have antivirus. I'm good. Yeah, I'm good. You know, and fortunately, those days are passed.

So you know, that's an important aspect that we need to educate that the days of not really worried about cybersecurity are over and, and everyone has to worry about cybersecurity now.

Adults are just BIG Kids, and as a BIG Kid I love HUGS!

Adults are just BIG Kids, and as a BIG Kid I love HUGS!

We own a professional gymnastics training center (www.deutschsgym.com), and our teams practice multiple times per week.  Most of the time, we are always training the Technical Skills.  That is what we do.  We teach and coach the kids to learn "tricks" and perform routines for competitions.

We also focus on training and coaching the same athletes on their People Skills.  We even go further and focus on helping the athletes develop their Character Skills.  That's right!  You read that right...."develop their Character Skills."

Did you know that you can develop your character skills?  We all can benefit by making character building skills a cornerstone of our life goals.

Our primary goal though is to coach our athletes so they can strike the right balance in living life, mirroring what I strive to live by and wrote about in my book The Tricycle Effect.

One of the things I learned over the years is that as adults, we are simply just Big "grown up" Kids.

We are still the same person, in our personality at least, today that we were when we were 3 to 5 years old.  We can grow our character skills though.

Yes...we may cover up our inadequacies and weaknesses better than when we were younger, and we may be better at hiding the things we fear too.  However, we generally have the same feelings and emotional needs as an adult that we did when we were younger, though we most likely would not admit that to anyone, including ourselves.

With all that said, I have to admit that I loved riding tricycles when I was young and I should never have quit!  Do you want to know why?

Because the kids in our gym still naturally ride their tricycles in life and I realize now how fun that really was and that I have somehow forgotten how to "Trike" in life...like a kid again.

Most likely I forgot, because through the hard knocks of life somehow, I got rusty and got worried about whether I could or should "Trike" through life anymore or not.  Maybe through the fears and tensions of life, I did not feel I could have fun anymore.

After all, I am an adult now you know!

To illustrate this point, I want to share a quick story with you.  Sound good?

I walked into the gym this week, as I always do and started to get ready for team practice.  I reached over to turn on the music and suddenly realized that one of my athletes (we call them gym daughters), was wrapping her arms around one of my legs and giving me a Big HUG!

I looked down to see one of our newest and youngest gym daughters hugging me.  She wasn't tall enough to reach around my waist...she is only 7 years old I think and very short.

But, it wasn't a quick hug and done...it was a "bear" hug with all her heart and she did not let go!  I smiled down at her as she looked up at me.  Then without hesitation, she said, "How are you doing Dane?"

Oh my gosh!  How did she know I had a tough day...a really rough day emotionally...one of the worst days I have had in a long time.  Her hug was just what I needed.

Noone told her to come over and give me a hug and find out how I was doing.  Noone told her she could or could not hug me.  As it turns out, she left her class group and came across from the other side of the gym.  She just did what was natural for her.  She just "triked" over to me and gave me a hug and asked how I was doing.  Isn't that so innocent and so genuine and authentic....it came straight from her little heart.

She had no fears that I might not like the hug or even might reject her.  She just did what came naturally from her heart, I think. She simply "Triked" right over to me to give me a hug and let me know she cared about me.  What?  Isn't it supposed to be the other way around?  I am the coach, after all!  I am so glad that this little gymnast knows how to ride her trike in life...and I hope she never forgets how to Trike either.  Life is so much more rich and fun when we never stop "Trikin'."

Even though she is fairly new to the gym family, she already knows how to Trike in life. How great is that?!

No matter what else happened earlier in the day to me, all those emotions and feelings melted away, and once again, one of my gym daughters reminded me that life can be just that simple and sweet!

The sweetest things in life happen most of the time in an unplanned way.  We just need to Trike naturally like a kid again.

So, I decided a while back to learn how to "Trike" again.  My gym kids and gym daughters need me to learn how to Trike again, and frankly, I want to learn how to "Trike" again, because it is more meaningful in life and it is so much more fun Trikin' in life that just passing through.

How about you?  Do you remember how to Trike?  Why not start Trikin' again even though you are an adult?  Let me encourage you to get Trikin'.

Want to learn more, and find out how you too can Trike in Life?  Visit Amazon.com and search for The Tricycle Effect to find out more and learn about how you, too, can develop your character skills to Trike again like the kid you once were.

Trust me, life will become so much richer when we can let that Big Kid in us out again to play and Trike!  Smile On!
